NYJO had a great Jazz Workshop that was run by an internationally renowned sax player called Snake Davis, doubling-up with NYJO tutors Ben and Phil. NYJO players rated the day highly, saying how much they valued the chance they had to improvise in an extended workshop session with expert guidance. The emphasis was on developing performance skills. In one session, players watched themselves perform on video to see how they appeared to an audience - with much laughter! Then they practised how to play and look more professional!
Snake has earned his living as a professional musician for over 25 years. He taught about the importance to a musician of posture, breathing and practice. The session ended with a short performance. This first NYJO workshop was voted a great social, as well as musical, success - and our thanks to Snake and everyone involved!
